From CUNA News 03/28/2017:

CUNA, with the generous support of CUNA Mutual Group and CO-OP Financial Services, was able to secure the rights to the .creditunion domain from the Internet Corp. for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). Beginning this summer, credit unions will be able to register and use a .creditunion domain name of their choice to serve as a trusted source identifier on the internet for their members.

“This is great news for credit unions everywhere,” said Jill Tomalin, CUNA  deputy chief of staff and chief operating officer. “This new domain will not only help differentiate credit unions from other financial institutions, but also help create more member awareness around the credit union difference. The domain will be used to help credit unions provide information, education and services to their more than 100 million members.”

The .creditunion domain will be available to all U.S. credit unions through approved ICANN accredited registrars. Credit unions with qualified trademark rights will be able to register their domains beginning in May, while all other credit unions will be able to register their domains on a first-come, first-serve basis starting in June.

In April, CUNA will be hosting a webinar to provide a general overview of the .creditunion initiative and the registration process to members. This webinar is free, but sign-up is required. To register, click here.
